politico.com — In appointing veteran African-American officeholder Roland Burris to the Senate, embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich has done more than just flout the will of the Illinois establishment, the Senate and President-elect Barack Obama. With one stunning and politically exquisite act of defiance, he audaciously reasserted his authority.

He has been damaged goods for years. The guy hasn't been able to get elected to any office, so this is his last chance at seeing any government office.

His eyes were so bright while Blagojevich was making the announcement. I thought he looked like a kid on Christmas morning. It's too bad that he was going against his own advice. Just a few days before he was calling for the governor to resign!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FOIKG_T0TA

I heard a commentator call this appointment "Chicago's traditional bare-knuckled politics." As the Poltico puts it: ". With one stunning and politically exquisite act of defiance, he audaciously reasserted his authority and designed a trap that his opponents cannot easily sidestep."Since when have Internet sources started supporting CORRUPT politicians? Some reporters asked Burris about a $14K donation to Blagovich, and he said he didn't remember the *exact* number. Yes, he bribed his way in. That this man now has a significant position of power in our country is horrible.-Pie
