hosted.ap.org — And how can it be that in 2008 - 143 years after slavery was abolished, decades after the civil rights movement - an AP-Yahoo News poll could find that racial misgivings could cost Sen. Barack Obama the election?

I think both whites & blacks are both at fault. There is a large pocket of the black community that project a negative image of all blacks just the same as there is a large pocket of whites that project a bad image of whites. The problem falls on those of us that are in between. Not all blacks are violent & lazy, not all whites are rednecks or smug & privileged. But there are on both sides those that portray these stereotypes. So to point a finger at one race of people with blame, as it often is, is ridiculous. If everyone would realize that all races have sizable pockets of ugly people & start to point the finger at them instead of the whole race we would all be allot better off.To vote based on skin color & stereotypes created by others is even more ridiculous. I myself am a white, grew up non-privileged that has had bad experiences with those on both sides but fail to let that effect my views on a whole race rather white or black & definitely not effect my view during this election.

I am pleasantly surprised that this sounds somewhat balanced. Typically when you read/hear anything about racism/bigotry, the source completely forgets to mention that it goes both ways. I recently saw (I don't typically watch the show) on Dr. Phil, the most racist, bigoted man (some comedian) that I have personally ever heard on either side. I agree with writer above. To vote purely by race, which I believe some on both sides (one side more than the other) are doing, is ridiculous. I just read something the other day that Obama does not even have any "African American" heritage and that his "American" heritage is that of Slave owners (from his mother's side) Clearly, his father is not even American, hence no "African American" blood. I too am white, definitely grew up non-privileged (and continue to be part of middle class with no hopes of being privileged). I am not voting based on race. I am voting on who I feel is best suited to run our country. I also am opposed to anyone (regardless of color) that wants to kill infants born from botched abortions.
