21st-century-citizen.com — At least, that’s the message of a movement sometimes referred to as Black Google. The idea is that websites with a black background help save energy. Several alternative Google search pages use Google’s search technology on a dark screen.

I use the negative plugin in Compiz Fusion to invert all the colours on my screen. It may not help the environment much, but it's great for my eyes.

Check out this link on the Black Google website:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4008185.stmPretty scary considering I'm short-sighted and use a computer a lot.

Black might have done almost nothing 5 years ago when people actually used CRTs, but now it actually uses more energy. Black is better for your eyes at least.

I think its hilarious - but if we look at it in a different way, all of the black is easier on our eyes, perhaps saving some of us from needing glasses sooner (health care savings?), keeping us calmer during the workday - less workplace rage and lower stress which might equal less road rage....I guess if you REALLY pushed it, it might have some degree of benefit, LOL!

This has been one of the more interesting Diggs I have seen. I liked several of the comments, and that is what it's all about....generating a conversation. I would like to mention that black backgrounds may not "save" your eyesight. It definitely will not help you see better. If you are myopic, you would be better served by using a white background...the more light present, the smaller your pupil will become...the better you can see....it's the pinhole effect...The rest of you might need that pupil to open more....you need the black background. Have a great day!
