Racism comes in all colors.

There are MANY in the White House Administration that are much more racist than
this woman, starting with Obama, and the NAACP!
pietro187Jul 21, 2010
Oh, what a bummer it is that when the whole tape was found it turns out she ended up admitting her original views were wrong, she ends up helping the white farmer save his land and they are still good friends. But fun to jump to conclusions. Trolling. You're doing it right.

Proof. Her comments start around 16 minutes in. Or read CNN this morning. Or listen to Glenn Beck, who I'm sorry to say from a faith in journalism standpoint, reported the truth on the matter.
veedekJul 21, 2010
I meant prove that the White House Administration is racist. I want Janinco to justify that bulls**t statement, if he/she can, which I doubt because he/she is probably just another ignorant teabagger.
You know what goes great with tea, CRACKERS! I'm must saying.

chestnutridgeJul 20, 2010
Now that the whole story has come out do you feel stupid for these idiotic posts? Or are you happy you jumped to conclusions based on part of a speech that was taken out of context and twisted into the exact opposite of what she she was saying?
Closed AccountJul 21, 2010
No, I don't feel a bit stupid. I read numerous versions of the story and I've seen the interview with the farmer and his wife.
She still majorly f**ked up. Again ... she referred him to one of "his own kind" ... a lawyer and this lawyer advised him to give up his farm, his house, his living....
To hid credit he did not listen to the lawyer and pursued more help. If he had listened to the lawyer that Shirley referred him to, he would have lost everything.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Let's be honest: The wife of the farmer she's discussing came out publicly and said without this woman's help, they would have lost their farm completely. With the help of this woman from the USDA, they were able to keep their farm.
I'm not excusing the comment but she obviously helped them enough for them to keep their livelihoods and did her job.
Closed AccountJul 21, 2010
No algae. The lawyer Shirley referred him to told him to give up his farm. He didn't listen.
kwanijmlJul 21, 2010
True, and whoever edited the video was being dishonest by cutting of the last bit of her speech where she talked about realizing that it's about rich and poor, not black and white.
However, do you not think that the kind of racism that this woman expressed is not still rampant in the NAACP and many other black communities? Doesn't it bother any other fair-minded people out there, how incredibly one-sided the racial debate has become? Do you not see that even most white people have themselves convinced that they are racist just by default. . . .even if they have never sought to discriminate against another race in their entire life? Drawing more and more attention to biases, real or imagined, does nothing to heal old wounds, and certainly not forge a better future. Let's be grown-ups now in the 21st century and stop worrying about what people think, unless it is directly harming or defrauding another person. This woman obviously changed, to some extent, and that's great. . .but I think that stories like these draw attention to the valid inequalities, where people are not being given equal treatment under the law because of racial motivations.
volfie99Jul 21, 2010
This has already been repudiated. (Or refudiated, if you follow sarah palin.) That douchebag Breitbart edited it to make it seem back, and they fired the chick. Now that the truth has come out they're working on getting her job back. Of course, Breitbart is still employed by his propagandists....
akchrsJul 21, 2010
"fired the chick"
Sexist much?
edstateJul 21, 2010
When I first heard this story, I was outraged.
But then I heard there was "more to the story"... so I read about it.
And THEN I found out that she cast them off onto a bankruptcy lawyer of "their own kind", and I got a little sick.
But then again, only "white" people can be Racists. Right? RIGHT?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ageofmasteryJul 21, 2010
Funny you didn't hear that the "more to the story" was that Brietbart selectively edited the tape, and that the wife of the farmer has publicly supported her.
Damn funny you didn't hear that
edstateJul 21, 2010
No. I heard you say that. But I've also heard and read the "rest" of the woman's story, and she still deserved to be canned.
She was on a power trip, and she "deigned" to schluff these poor people off to a WHITE lawyer. On purpose, a WHITE lawyer.
Yeah, there was more to the story. But just like the ACORN tapes, they were still very, very much in the wrong and deserved everything they got.
rhawk187Jul 21, 2010
It may have been edited, but there are certain parts that were pretty clearly not. Referring to taking someone to their "own kind" is about as racist as it comes.

Age, I'm a Christian...so I think it's by the grace of God that this story ended well.
The lawyer "of their own kind" that she referred him to told him to lose everything. Told him to walk away from his farm, his home, his life...
...if he had listened to the lawyer that Shirley sent him to, he would have lost everything.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
chestnutridgeJul 21, 2010
Edstate-- Let me get this straight. The woman was telling a story about something that happened 24 years ago when she was a private citizen working for a charity. She told how she mishandled a situation and how she later realized she had been wrong. She became friends with the couple and she determined to treat all people the same in the future. From that, you have decided she is on a "power trip" and deserves to be canned!
Boy you sure are judgmental! I sure hope you never make a mistake and regret it later because you will have no choice but to kill yourself!.

"Spooner says Sherrod accompanied him and his wife to a lawyer in Americus, Georgia, who was able to help them file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which ultimately saved their farm."
In other words they DID listen to the lawyer and his advice let them save their farm.
Closed AccountJul 21, 2010
Again...RIGHT in your link:
The poor-quality video shows Sherrod telling her audience that the farmer she was working with "took a long time ... trying to show me he was superior to me." As a result, she said, she "didn't give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough."
To prove she had done her job, she said, she took him to a white lawyer. "I figured that if I take him to one of them, that his own kind would take care of him," she said.
But that lawyer failed to help, she said. "I did not discriminate against [the farmer]. And, in fact, I went all out to frantically look for a lawyer at the last minute because the first lawyer we went to was not doing anything to really help him. In fact, that lawyer suggested they should just let the farm go."

Buried as more deceitful s**t from Brietbart. When the full video of the speech got out, it showed her saying that this was an incident in her past that taught her how to be a better and more tolerant civil servant. Of course, Brietbart skipped that part and only showed the part he wanted you to see, slandering the woman and costing her a job for nothing.

If you actually watch the whole video, she talks about how she was wrong to think that way, and that it is about being "poor'' not being black or white. I actually like that quality in a person. When they can learn from their mistakes and grow because of it. I'm not condoning her initial reaction, but at least she saw the error in her ways.

chestnutridgeJul 21, 2010
Maybe the reason this is not getting the diggs you expect is because the story has been twisted to make a decent woman seem like a racist.
You need to get the whole story here but since you probably won't here are the key point:
1. The whole thing took place 24 years ago!
2. She wasn't in goverment at the time, she was working for a private charity.
3. She told the story to explain how she later saw that she HAD BEEN WRONG and how she had determined to treat all people the same.
jjessup0002Jul 21, 2010
As a black guy I was appualed by the attitude of this woman the start. It was rediculous that she would, " Send Him To His Own Kind." Then I continued to watch the video and magically the clip stopped just short of her talking about this being in her past and that she had learned from the event. Piece of advice. If you are gonna post video's about someone., post the whole thing so we can develope our own oppinions of the person. You are trying to portray her as racist but the truely racist one is the ignorant fool that posted the video
woodsjransomJul 21, 2010
You got that right but people don't have any respect for most diggers, they ended up at Digg to infiltrate and offset Obama during the election. They will be gone they come in waves wait until the 2012 election starts heating up.
jdenzerJul 21, 2010
So let me get this straight. This woman was telling a story (20+ years ago) on how she realized that the poor have it hard. She realized that it doesn't just affect blacks, black whites all have it hard. And now the right thank to Brietbart fancy editing are trying to paint her as a racist that has been doing this all along. And somehow it closely ties in w/ Pres. Obama, despite of no other proof from the right. And now she has lost her job, b/c of that story. If that is the case then Newt Gingrich should not be allowed to run for President, after all he is an proven adulterer. This is absolutely absurd.
Funny how we always hear about the former pimp, drug addict, dealer who realizes the wrong in their life and how they found god. And no one questions that. Ted Haggard was 'cured of the gay' and somehow he was welcomed back to the church.
Jordan117Jul 21, 2010
From FiveThirtyEight:
"The VERY SENTENCE before Brietbart's video begins, Sherrod says God showed her that it was all about poor people, not about race after all."
http://twitter.com/fivethirtyeight/statuses/19033427114
bottlcapsJul 21, 2010
More video sabotage from the right. I the am particularly distressed by the mainstream media, who did not properly vet the story, seeing where it came from. But my real disgust is reserved to the nimrods in the Ag. Dept and Sec Vilsack who asked for her resignation almost immediately. THEY need to be fired!
thetruthbringerJul 21, 2010
The real story here isn't about race, it's about the attitude of government officials, to help someone "the bare minimum" for purely subjective reasons. That's the real story and that's why Obama axed her so quickly before people had a chance to realize how pervasive that sort of attitude is and how especially pertinent it is as we turn over more and more of our nation's business each day to arbitrary, subjective, unelected bureaucrats like Ms. Sherrod. After all, who are you going to appeal to when the federal government makes an arbitrary decision, that same $3,552,000,000,000 bureaucracy?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The actual EVENT happened a long time ago...but the speech to the NAACP where she's using language like "his own kind"...happened in March of this year.
chestnutridgeJul 21, 2010
This might make sense if she had been working for the government but she wasn't. She was working for a private charity, you know one of those organizations we are always being told should take the place of goverment in helping people.
Closed AccountJul 21, 2010
But it's clear from her speech that she had to answer to the government. That's why she needed to do something, but not the "full force".
And again...she is using these terms THIS year. He acted superior. So she had to decide how much she was going to help him. She decided to send him to one of his kind.
And the audience is going "Uh-huh..." "Uh-huh". This year.

Hardly at all. The only mistake I made in that posting was I typo'd "bad" for "back" in the second sentence.
And from what I understand, Shirley Sherrod is quite the swinging chick! *finger snap*
I also understand, more seriously, that Ms. Sherrod might not want her job back, and I don't blame her. When your bosses don't cover your back, you really don't have to work for them. Craven cowardly screaming hysterical politics is no way to run the USDA, let along the US government.
