wired.com— A company that provides communications systems to law enforcement agencies around the world has developed a black box similar to those used in aircraft to record crash data in cars.

Actually, many cars already have black box features that record driving data for the purpose of safety (prepping the car in case an imminent crash is detected) and performance (adapting the car's response/behavior to the driver's habits). Insurance companies have been known to use court orders to query this data in cases, for example to prove that a plaintiff's car was over the speed limit during an accident, thus rendering him ineligible for coverage. Bearing that in mind, having a more capable device such as the one spoken of here on your vehicle is just another avenue of possible self-incrimination. Use with caution.
If you're talking about OBD, yes some cars record certain data...but not video and GPS (location, speed, time/date). Besides, the OBD's are almost never tapped into unless it is a severe accident, this product will help tremendously in standard car wrecks...this price is right too. I've heard of the Drivecam, but its about $600 and doesn't have GPS...AND they require a monthly payment to aggregate and report the data!
