Theres already movement away from corn for most of these reasons. I believe there is a proposal to use algae which can be mass produced extremely quickly and with little nutrients.
My understanding is this: What you want to do is capture energy from the sun, and store it in batteries. Other people want to capture energy from the sun and store it in hydrocarbons. Obviously, the method that's been going on for billions of years is going to be more efficient.
Stop taking my food for fuel when there are real alternatives. Biofuel from food crops is the WORST idea EVER. There's more than enough waste biomass and other cultivated crops that could be used in place of corn. Innovate a little. Please.
And? In case you missed it my point was that people too easily dismiss technology. Did I say I advocated switching to electric cars and ceasing investigations into options? Indignant misplaced rant much.

Corn based biofuel is a crime against humanity and should be outlawed. Period.

They use sugar beets in the EU.We just use corn here because the corn lobbyists are strong, like we use high-fructose corn syrup instead of sugar in soft drinks and other places because the sugar lobbyists are strong enough to force big tariffs on imported sugar.I recommend "Free Lunch", http://www.amazon.com/Free-Lunch-Wealthiest-Themse ...looks at how rich people use their lobbyists to make themselves richer... guess where the money comes from? Yep, us poor working people who have to work for a living.
