@PopcornDave: Interesting concept. One answers the phone, hears offer, and then decides whether to listen further or hang up. Revolutionary, I say.Everyday I come a little bit closer to accepting the government's role in micromanaging our lives because individuals today can't seem to handle even the most basic of tasks such as hanging up a telephone. The future is going to suck.

I was in the states on an exchange from NZ when I turned 18, and the school automatically put me down for chasing up for the draft!I received a letter 3 months before I left the states to go back to NZ stating that I still had not signed up for the draft! and that I "could server jail time if I did not sign up. I rung them and advised them that I was not a US citizen and therefore did not need to sign up for the draft and they immediately took me off the list, but it seems a bit ridiculous that the schools should send in the lists, can't they get this information from elsewhere? and therefore exclude people like myself.

This post proves the level of maturity and respect that is found here at Digg. There is no reason to dig down m8ymerc1. This person was sharing how the Coast Guard helped make them a better person and gave them a future. I know alot of you are envious because you are either just a loser or some stoner still living with mommy and daddy. I know you all have to be as emo as possible, but could you at least show a little respect once in a while? I know that is a lot to ask of the highly "tolerant" diggeral libtards around here.

SERIOUS QUESTION FOR LEFTIST LIBBIES!!!After the majority of GOP leadership are indicted and removed from office, should we force a mandatory draft for all republicans who squealed and whined our way into this Iraq disaster? Should we ship all vocal proponents of the war, people who supported it without question, out to Iraq immediately so they will have no choice but to be personally held responsible for their actions?

I have served and this has nothing to do with Selective Services. This is about public schools being forced to turn over children's info, not 18 year olds. You need to do some research. In fact, I will bet you have no children. The No Child Left Behind act states that schools have to hand over the information of kids as young as middle school or lose government funding. Where I come from middle school aged children are 13-14 years old.Take a look at section 9528 of No Child Left Behind. It is quite clear. No messy fussy words about it. Clear and concise.http://www.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/esea02/pg112.html#sec9528

@ fcra:In a manner of speaking, yes, but to many it's not much of a choice. I signed up to be an 11B, Infantryman, and after about 3 years the Army selected me to be a recruiter. At this point I had two options: I could continue in the Army, serve a tour as a recruiter, and keep my career, or I could sign what's known as a declination of continued service statement, which would decline the recruiting tour, but would prevent me from reenlisting and effectively end my military career, preventing me from reaching my goal of retiring from active duty at age 40.@ Goner:I don't want your pity, don't shed any tears for me. I only post these things so people realize that recruiters aren't all social vampires trying to goad innocents into "throwing their lives away".
