There aren't too many web sites that exist that aren't routed behind a hardware firewall. That would be stupid for any web server software for a site that gets as much traffic as this one probably does. And it's a well-known fact that there are a great deal of commercial grade routers that run an embedded version of Linux. Even my little web site that gets only a few hundred hits a month is behind a router.
Gah...This discussion again? As someone wrote a few posts up:www.gatesfoundation.org.edgesuite.net canonical name = a822.g.akamai.net.gatesfoundation.org, as well as a whole lot of other microsoft sites uses Akamai wich basically is a company that delivers caching solutions for websites. The caching servers does run Linux, but the _real_ webserver is most probably Windows/IIS.
@becominglumberg: Ehm. *Why* exactly would one call Bill a talented programmer? He has programmed close to nothing usable in his entire life. He did not do MS-DOS. He did not do Windows. And even IF he did write any of those (which he didn't), what the hell did he do to make him into a talented programmer? A talented marketeer, now *that* he *is*!

But still, doesn't it sounds weird that not even the Microsoft people don' t dare to expose their IIS servers directly to the Web.
