Financial grade CR80 cards have high coercivity magnetic stripes. A refrigerator magnet will work on your low coercivity casino machine card, but should not work on your bank card. Beside this technology would work with a smart card too. Unless you require additional authentication like biometrics, you still only need duplicate data and private key from pin.By the way, if you put some iron powder in alcohol or another fluid that evaporates at room temp, you can expose the stripe data. It is binary between one for one clock bits.
I just had 800E stolen from my bank account 3 weeks ago by someone using this kind of scam and duplicating the card to take out money in Greece... good times... I'm still waiting fo the bank's insurance to give me the money back.
Actually, you just call them and tell them it was stolen. They'll handle everything else for you. You don't have to do anything really. Plus, with something like a credit card, you get protection if they do take your money before you call the bank. You don't have to pay for purchases made with a credit card if it was unauthorized.
