I bet you're one of those who watches the most watched sport in the .... US ... foot-ball (why is it called like that again?) or baseball.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................sorry, I fell asleep just by pronouncing that word....
Yeah, like SgtFish says, it's more common than you'd think. Agassi did it quite famously a few years back and I think I saw Djokovic (was it Djokovic?) pull it off late last week, and the commentator mentioned it was a "Federer"-like play.
Because he plays "light" tennis, his shot accuracy allows him to cover less ground as he can push opposition players where he wants them to be, this is the same reason he's stayed so fit for so long, unlike Nadal whose game is all about graft and hard work, wearing down opponents, Nadals hard running on the court has cost him 3 to 4 years of his career. While it's true Fed played a terrible final, players are learning how to push him and his body so as to play harder faster tennis, just look at the recent Murray Federer ATP matches, it's the same reason why Nadal had the edge on him before his injuries.
