No thats not true, a program crashing should not bring down an OS unless it inadvertently creates a fork bomb or something. The problem with Linux crashing is due to dodgy drivers, I have never had a crash because of anything but dodgy drivers, and I imagine alot of Windows crashes are for the same reason, but a mac doesnt have this excuse as the hardware is chosen by apple themselves.
Yes, 80% of the BSOD in XP are due to poorly written drivers, 20% are windows suck. One of the reasons why vista x64 is so stable. WHQL required drivers.
I'm a mac fan, but the premise that Macs don't crash is that if you're using a barebone mac with just what comes with leopard. It doesn't crash, well I've never seen it crash. But since I install Office and Adobe CS3, Azureus and couple other apps, there have been kernel panics once or twice every two months.
