consumerist.com — Sam says that he went to BestBuy.com and bought a hard drive for in-store pick up. What he got was a box of bathroom tiles. Now Best Buy is saying he'd better take it up with manufacturer and that they're not going to issue a refund and that Sam should just take his loss. We don't think he should. We think it's not legal to sell someone a box...

The last time I went to Best Buy, I was looking for a GPS unit. They had one on sale. When I finally got the attention of a salesperson, he acted like it was a major hardship to go find the keys to open the display cabinet. He eventually wandered back to where I was waiting and retrieved the unit for me. When the cashier rang up the sale, I noticed that the price had nearly doubled in price between the back of the store and the front counter. When I pointed this out to the cashier, she sighed and offered to call the salesperson to check the price. I told her not to bother and left. I haven't been back since. Ended up getting a GPS unit from woot.

I know not all employees of best buy are bad, i have intelligent friends who work there. But the fact that sometimes people do try to scam best buy doesn't give best buy the right to treat every customer returning something like a pile of crap. I have also bought something from best buy only to find is broken when i tried it out at home, clearly not my fault; however i was accused of trying to scam the store and pratically interrogated by the manager about it. Point is best buy treats its customers like crap on a daily basis. You may be the anomily but most best buys are like that.

It's absolutely true, and then they treat us like crap for their own mistakes.

Yeah. I haven't been to many Best Buy's other than my own (not a whole lot of them around where I live), so I haven't experienced the customer service at the others. It isn't right for your Best Buy in your area to treat you like garbage tho. I know at ours, as much as the managers don't like it (unless of course if they're just trying to exchange), there is really nothing they can do when you have a receipt and it says "hey, I bought this two hours ago and it was broken when I got it home, so, yeah let me have another one" unless they are just complete ass h**es.

This is the oldest trick in the book. Either the guy is lying, trying to get money back on an item he has at the house somewhere. Or someone else returned the hard drive with a box of tiles in its place. Walmart started inspecting returns very carefully due to this fact. People would walk in during the holidays, buy a big TV, return the box after Christmas, only instead of a TV inside, it would be something as heavy as the TV. So the cashier wouldn't check the box and would just put it back in stock. This is probably what happened here. Only this guy is trying to act innocent about it by saying he found the tiles. They should check his cc statements for a similar purchase at Lowes. :-)http://www.mysteryautoincome.com

Why is it that the bigger a compnay gets the less they care about people? And these people that they don't care about are the ones who made them big in the first place. In these times it seems better to go to the local mom and pop type stores, pay alil bit more and get great service. These big box stores don't have a clue, they are only thinking of their share holders, not their customers.ettp://megadollars4u.com

If you're buying something from Newegg, though, make sure it doesn't say "non-refundable" in the product's return policy.
