mobilitytoday.com — "Everyone all the XBox360's are sold out, but we have a great deal on a Compaq laptop for only $449.00). ..I overheard the employee hard selling a customer who originally was going to buy and Xbox 360 saying, "Why do you need an Xbox360 when you can buy this laptop and play all "games" on this?

This is not a Bait and Switch. As long as the company had the xbox 360s at some point to sell, regardless if they sold out, then it is legal. In this case, every store had a minimum of at least 20 so there is no way that this could be classified as a bait and switch. But, it was really stupid of the employee to announce what he did. I actually am an employee at best buy and unfortunately this happens a lot in consumer electronics (not just best buy). It is difficult for management to continually staff knowledgeable people and on top of that, people who aren't afraid to admit when they don't know the answer to something and are willing to find out rather than lie to the customer. If/when I see this in my store I make sure to go up to the coworker to make sure that they realize what they've done and hopefully get a chance to talk to the customer as well. I make it a rule that I will never push customer to buy anything, only let him/her know what is available and I will never lie about a product if I don't know the answer.

At the Best Buy where I live, there is a huge wall of big screen TV's. I always dreamed of taking the universal remote key chain from ThinkGeek and having some fun...

This is not bait and switch. Bait and switch would be to say, "We have the XBox for $50.00!" and then telling customers that the only way to get that price was to sign up for an over priced online service for a minimum of 5 years.

Wow, a store tried to sell something. That's despicable.

First of all let me say I worked my high school, and some of my college days away putting in 3 years of retail service. What they did is not illegal and is not bait and switch. But they will do anything to get store traffic, so a leak is likely. If not by corporate then by the managers themselves. Is it unethical? probably but poor ethics aren't illegal in this country, actually they are a good way to make a buck.. hmm

I have never once had a good experience at best buy. First never any employees to help you.The geek squad is over priced and couldn't fix the mainproblem on my computer( a best buy computer )the geeks were in my home for three hours and left vile video on my computer that they downloaded tocheck my video card. I made a full and final payment to my best buy card and 14 days laterit still had not added the payment back to my account, even though they zapped the money frommy bank the following day. If at all possible avoid best (worst) buy. I cut up my card and hate best buy thay suck

It's amazing the kind of things that were going on for XBox 360, especially stores that were trying to take advantage of the situation and pull a bait and switch. I found this experience pretty wild; this guy started an entire website because of an XBox experience at FYE: http://www.reallysux.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4
