This list is adequately written, but the site design is shocking and the box scans have been horribly skewed. And that screenshot is from MechWarrior 3 (or maybe 4, but definitely NOT 2). That's pretty surprising for someone making a list of fondly-recalled games.
This whole article glosses over a number of classics. The original Unreal represented the largest leap in gaming graphics on the PC EVER. We went from Tomb Raider (great for its time), Turok (another classic) and Shadows of the Empire (ANOTHER classic), all of which had low poly counts and mediocre textures to gorgeously rendered scenes with reflective surfaces. And this was 10 years ago! And no mention of Undying? That was a very cool sleeper based on the UT engine!Clearly these guys didn't live through the entire Voodoo experience. Probably a bunch of twenty-somethings who started with the Voodoo 3.
@khyberkitsune - "And for the record, neither of my Voodoo2 Cards had heatsinks. Pure passive cooling. Good old 12mb Creative Voodoo Blasters. I still have mine and they still work - I can't say that for most other card manufacturers today."Passive cooling means having heatsinks only. Active cooling would mean heatsinks and fans. No heatsinks at all means there is no cooling device. So you didn't have passive cooling, you had no cooling at all. (The cooling part indicates something is trying to cool the chips down whether actively with fans or passively with just a heatsink)
I don't know about the original UT, but the original Unreal (the single player one) was VERY impressive with glide and it had full native glide support, unlike most games. I remember upgrading to a glide card and it was incredible, there were all kinds of new effects (specifically I recall some cool reflection effects) that never existed in opengl. Btw, Unreal was one of the best single player games I've ever played. It seems like nobody has played that game (or at least beat it).... It left off as a "To be continued".. and Unreal 2 never continued off it! Very disappointing
This article just inspired me to buy a voodoo3 off of ebay. A voodoo3 for no more than 10 dollars sounds like a deal to me. I'm putting it in an old system for legacy support, and I will be playing every game on this list..There was a very important game they left off of the list. Halflife and all of it's modifications had excellent glide support. Several games at the time recommended using voodoo cards as well. One such example is FF7.
"Of them, the first (3Dfx) went out of business and (Matrox) picked a low-end industial path with multi-display market."3DFX didn't go out of business. They were purchased (eaten?) by NVidia, who promptly buried all of the IP. I remember the day it happened how bizarre the entire thing seemed. The day before that, none of us would have considered buying anything other than a Voodoo card. They were on top of the game, and suddenly they were gone. It was a giant WTF moment for alot of us.
I've got a problem with Carmegeddon 2 . I run on XP any help? Some times it just blacks out and then brings up a message saying send dont send error report over a file!

I agree. Tribes was the best use of Glide, ever.(Tribes two sucked, but Starsiege: Tribes was awesome. Tribes Vengeance isn't too bad.)
