This job may look soul crushing, but 10/hr. is better than I ever earned at any of my part time jobs while in school. Besides, the job requires maybe an hour of training and a middle school education from the looks of things. The monotony of that job should motivate those individuals to save up/get a loan, get an education and one day RUN a business like that instead of working for one.
I used to work p/t at qvc jewelry distribution. I was material supply and was on my feet most of the time running around but the jewelry packers had a very similar setup. I guess all places that pack/ship large volumes have those cubicles. Some people would pack for 10 hours straight! Most jewelry packers were housewives and immigrants from india in case you were wondering.
OooopsNetflix has about 1000 people in 20 locations doing this type of work. They are currently working on an automated system which will allow them to move away from manual inspections.... Blockbuster uses a scanner.
Looks mind numbing. I'm surprised it's not more automated and they don't have, at least, machines to remove the DVDs from the envelopes or place a DVD in a new sleeve. I also hope there is some sort of recycling for all the used envelopes. Unless it becomes possible to also download all the extras you get often get on a DVD, I'm still going to want to get a DVD disk over downloading. I like watching behind-the-scene extras, audio commentary, etc.. You won't get that with a download -- at least not now.
