fb2.hu — With the recent acquisition of the Konfabulator application, Yahoo! released its Yahoo Widgets package, which enables cross-platform (Mac OS X and Windows XP) development of dynamic, simple, and visually pleasing mini desktop applications. This tutorial will show you how to build these "widgets" with JavaScript and XML.

Personally I feel the reference and tutorial on the main site are a little more informative and helpful and are a great place to stop by after you read this tutorial.I was able to whip out a widget that reads information from Active Directory and displays it in an hour or two w/o having run K2 before. Could be useful (or a fun toy) for some applications...

Konfabulator is not an APPLE product. It is a YAHOO product.

volcompimp: not the reason to want konfabulator on linux is full cross platform widget creation. right now we have widgets running on both windows and mac os.. next up is probably linux, and a widget written for linux will (for the most part) run on the other two platforms. the only reason it wouldn't is if you start using some weird console apps that are not available on the other platforms.

Hi guys,It's great that the article was digg'd, I feel honored :-). Regaring quaffapint's comment, the Reference Guide is a must for all widget developers. I was struggling literally for hours to get the textarea widget to show up - while the guide spells it out that both the foreground, background color, and the opacity must be set to make it show up. So yes, definitely read it :-)

Yahoo Widgets will probably not be on Linux anytime soon.
