mic-ro.com — Many operators of metros, subways or underground railways want to attract more passengers with good station design. This often means extra effort and higher costs for the metro operators but it seems to pay when a metro is more than just a means of transport but something the residents can be proud of.

I wish San Francisco would spice up their stations as well.. For being a city of the arts, it sure does lack by comparison.. :(

Camilos:The f**ker is a typical ontarian who whines that we (Québec) are sucking him dry, which is patently false, because Québec receives a pittance in equalization payments. It amounts to about $300 per capita per annum more than we pay in taxes, whereas other parts of the country can get as much as $20,000 per capita.Fact is, Ontario hate our guts because we are french (the english always hate the french, whilst the reverse is not true – if it was, we would have kicked them out more than 200 years ago), and they always do their damned best to s**t on us.Ontarians are the most snotty, snobbish and assh**est of canadians; they are the richest province and because of that, they think that the rest of canada should kneel in front of them and suck their dicks. The real reason is that in Ontario, no one has a life (they only think about money) while in Québec, we have fun (that’s why we have a colorful subway), and there is nothing lifeless people hate more than people who have fun.

I live and work in Toronto and can confirm that the subway stations here are really quite old and ugly. Sure, the subway will take you where you want to go, but it won't do so in style. The main problem is that there are three levels of government in Canada (municipal, provincial, and federal) and none of them have the money or the desire to improve public transit. Transit in Canada means more roads for more cars, following the development model the US invented last century.

I think you are being unfair to the Washington Metro. Compared to my local subway (the Toronto subway), Washington's stations and trains and clean, smooth, and modern. If you left the Center of the Universe for the Centre of the Universe (a Toronto joke, I apologise) you would soon learn how wonderful the system is that you have.

I imagine you can thank the Germany engineering and construction firms that made it.

I prefer travelling by metro/subway/tube when I visit cities, and I find one thing very unique about the London Underground: After travelling on the tube, if I blow my nose, I discover that I have black snot.I kid you not. Are "the black snots" a known London phenomenon, or does it only affect the tourists like me?
