blog.wired.com — The Beastie Boys was already a rap phenomenon when the group's raunchy debut Licensed to Ill dropped in 1986. But the New York trio became a hip-hop legend after the brilliant, sample-based production of its 1989 follow-up, Paul's Boutique, put it over the top for good.

Paul's Boutique - The "Sgt. Pepper" for Gen X. I remember listening to that in my 20's almost on a daily basis in a room full of skate punks sitting around a dirty bong on an even dirtier floor.A week ago, I listened to this album again for the first time in probably 10 years. Still got it.

815 V st NW Washington, DC. It is, in my opinion, one of the best music venues on the east coast. The sound is ridiculous. If you're ever in the district, I highly recommend catching a show there. www.930.com

It sold out really quickly-- also had Citizen Cope, Justin Jones and Chery Crow that night. Moby the night before, after hours. I heard about that Gogol Bordello show but didn't go. I live in NE DC, 4 hours is a long hike for shows. No good venues where you're from?
