ismashphone.com — Paramount to any other features of the iPhone, the lack-of-keypad is what distinguished it from the rest of the market. This feature, however, brought much criticism to the iPhone, for many believed it would be far more difficult to type.

How the hell do you leave the Blackberry out?!!A Blackberry (especially the 8700 series) is fast for any typist to use out-of-the-box and also down the road. Also, you cannot do a phone typing test without PROPER NOUNS.The majority of text entered into a phone includes proper nouns - names, addresses - plus zip codes, phone numbers, times, dates, unique abbreviations, etc. I have had two Blackberrys, an iPod touch and now have a 3G iPhone. The touch keyboard is definitely usable but there is no way it is more accurate or faster than the Blackberry. Editing is much, much slower if you have to go back beyond the backspace key.

In Safari they do (if you orient it horizontally before clicking on a text field) if you would like to try that out, but for some stupid reason, the Mail and SMS apps don't let you do that. You'd think they would have fixed that basic problem by now, but no.

I never had an accident on the road in car or on a bike, I had few on race track. People pay 0 attention to what's going on around them. Don't tell me that if you are typing away and someone emergency brakes in front of you, you are going to react super fast and stop in time. Just because it didn't happen yet, it doesn't mean it will not happen. And if they are on a bike like me 80% of the time, you are going to kill them or best case put them into hospital. I'm just lucky that my bike is narrow enough and I always split to the front to avoid people like you.

The QWERTY layout has nothing to do with typing with one finger/stylus on a touch screen. It would be nice to see keyboard layouts developed for that purpose on the iPhone, like theMetropolis-II layout, or a improved T9 like predictive text combined letter arrangement. There have been conducted research in this area! And speech recognition?

Wrong and wrong. The phone vibrates a little on 'button' presses for haptic feedback, and predictive text means you don't have to hit numbers repeatedly.
