canada.com — "First, we believe that suing our fans is destructive and hypocritical. We do not want to sue music fans, and we do not want to distort the law to coerce fans into conforming to a rigid digital market artificially constructed by the major labels."

"It is the government's responsibility to protect Canadian artists from exploitation."No. It's your responsibility as musicians to not sign with labels whose practices you disagree with. You shouldn't be using the govt. to erode copyright just because you don't like someone's policy towards copyright violators.

Just like any other music group, they have their audience.I happen to like some of there stuff.Britney Spears obviously has fans (music or otherwise), but you are also going to have people who hate her music. No need to knock it just because it isn't your musical preference.

decidedly missing from that list of Canadian musicians was Metric. They had Broken Social Scene there, but not Metric. Seeing as there is some cross over on band members I wonder what happened there.Regardless I am extremely happy that they are doing this. This should be up to the Musicians not the companies that publish the music. Personally I think whomever runs ownership records on songs should make it illegal for any song from this day on to be sold. That way the music always remains in the hands of the artist. The publisher should get the rights to publish it, but should not be able to pursue anyone legally unless the artist agrees... Just a thought...
