danielpipes.org— Ironically, his lies about this matter conform with Koranic scripture justifying deceit in the service of Islam.

Being a Muslim by birth and practicing Islam are different. Everything in this article hinges on things that were done by his family before he had any input. I was baptized Catholic before I could speak, too. Doesn't mean I hang on every word the Pope says.
Even taking what you say as correct, Obama still sees fit to LIE TO US ALL about his Muslim past. It's a deceitful exercise in which he's enthusiastically supported by the media (including some conservatives). Thank God for writers like Pipes.
I second Jamesotis' remarks. Why has Obama not been straight with us? If he is a former Muslim, why not just admit it, or say that he didn't make a personal decision of faith until some later point, or man, any sort of explanation? Instead, he denies and lies about it. Why?
If Obama really were a Muslim during his youth, that shouldn't trouble anybody so long as he makes it clear that he turned from that path when he embraced Christianity. I would certainly be cool with that. Heck, one of my favorite politicians is Bobby Jindal, who turned away from Hinduism to embrace Christianity, and (unlike Obama) actually acts like it. And that's the whole problem --- Obama does not show any evidence of a change in his life since he became Christian. Instead, he claims that he became Christian when he realized that he could do so and still think the same way he was before. That is just the opposite of what I would expect from someone who became a Christian because he was convinced of the truth of the Gospel. That, in the end, is why I don't trust Obama. (Aside, of course, from the fact that his policies align him in large part with those who oppose Christianity --- Communists, abortionists, homosexuals, and the like.)
