blogs.telegraph.co.uk — There is no more solemn duty for an American??commander-in-chief than the martialling of "all elements of American power" - the phrase Obama himself used on Monday - to protect the people of the United States. In that key respect, Obama failed on Christmas Day, just as President George W.

Seriously? A failure? In what way is he a failure on National Security? You must be saying this based on all the attacks on our national soil since he came in office. You must be saying this because he pulled all troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. You must be saying this because he stopped all drone attacks in Pakistan. You must be saying this because the admin is not working with Yemen to attack bases there. Wait, the admin is working on all that. What conclusion can be made then? You're the failure.

awl19 said "The next President we have will be deemed the almighty Messiah too"Um, no. Obama, for some strange reason, has been deemed "the One". Makes no sense. The guy was a piss poor Illinois State Senator and pretty much all he did was vote "present". Empty suit was an appropriate name for the guy except the mainstream media fawned over him like he was the Second Coming. I don't think so. As someone who is from the Chicago area, I know all too well the corruption and backroom deals that go on in The Chicago Democratic Machine, from which he was spawned. The guy is a smooth talking Chicago lawyer with no real resume. Pretty much anyone else will be better than this guy. Hopefully all the people swooning over him will have realized that they made a mistake and not keep him in office for a second term. I'm not holding my breath though.

Fair enough...For one thing, I'm bothered by how Obama's failures can somehow be excused by recalling Bush's failures. It's as if Bush has become the Gold Standard to which all future president should be held. "I mean, at least he's better than Bush, right?" (Talk about lowering expectations!) What I find even more troubling is that while we are continually comparing Obama to Bush, we are unable to even be honest about it. We have to make up lies to make Bush appear even more incompetent than he was. So if we can convince everyone that Bush was even worse than he actually was, Obama will look even better! If Obama needs only to be a little better than Bush to be successful, we are in trouble. If Obama needs only to be a little better than the version of Bush you make up with deception, we are in even bigger trouble.Get it?

but Kanye has a point and many white americans are in denial about it. Hell republicans are pretty hateful towards black people. Its a superiority complex that is damaging to everyone in society. hell it was only 50 to 60 years ago that blacks were fighting to have a right to be human and have citizenship!! TO just be able to sit at the table..... Racism never died. ITs quite systematic and what you saw after Katrina was the ugly truth that the world saw and the world now knows, but Americans still deny!!!! and foreigners from other first world countries come to the US and see the high rates of poverty and low levels of education and just shake their heads in disappointment as the US they imagined isn't as great as they thought it would be. Right now America's shrinking middle class lives in a bubble away from what is perceived to be bad. Don't want to rub elbows with poor people on public transportation like most people do in other first world countries. DOn't want them in the same areas. I think the US is a very classist, and racist society. More than we would like to admit, and social mobility is at an all time low. That is social mobility upward. Though downward is working wonders. It pains me to say. Once I get my degree. I am just going to move to Japan and man chill there for the rest of my life.

Fair call. As much as I personally despise Bush, I don't see the need to invent lies to make him worse. As far as I'm concerned, the actual facts of his presidency stand on thier own as testament to his gross incompetence. But I take your point about people making him look worse than he was in order to make Obama seem better. It reminds me of all the years I had debates with people who supported the war in Iraq. In response to me raising the point 'Look how many deaths we're causing in pursuit of a war built on lies', their response would be something like 'at least we haven't killed as many as Saddam'. So the conclusion was similar to the one you raised, as far as these people were concerned, if Saddam killed 1,000,000 people then as long as we only killed 999,999 or less we still had the moral high ground because we hadn't killed as many as him. It didn't occcur to them that the taking of even one life based on a lie is morally reprehensible. So, yes, I get what you're saying ;DWould this be called moral relatvism?

Yes, but I really doubt big business is bothering to hire people to get conservative stories to the front page of a liberal-dominated website where the majority of people won't take it seriously.

> In a true democracy, would all opinions be heard> equally rather than having unpopular ones hidden? No, you call that hell on Earth instead where there's nothing but a cacophony of voices all speaking at once no matter how ignorant and useless they are. (see also Republican National Conventions)

I think there has been 2 more terrorists attempts against America since we last conversed. Kinda sounds like the Clnton days all over again. Proverbs 1: Here we go again.
