"I don't think having foreign military bases is a bad idea. there are maybe one two that are defunct but generally they serve a purpose. Because of them we are able to respond very quickly to threats world-wide."This is the exact problem with America. Why do we need to police the world? National defense is for our national borders, not around the world. But hey, the world is paying for it with a devalued dollar.
@nihilvilleYeah he easily could, by picking a pro-union education secretary he basically threw out the door any of his previously discussed reforms of the teacher's union, the people that have been the cause of the plummet in our education system for MANY many more years than Bush has been in office. In cali we have tried the "throw money at the problem" method to the tune of doubling our education budget since 1998, collectively our schools suck more than ever. It's time to WAKE UP for god's sake, the only variable that has been present throughout all of education decline is the unions (and department of education).... yet they are given more clout and power every year.
You still don't get the point. The reason why foreigners are pissed is because we're on their borders. How does Poland affect the United States?.. unless we're worried about other things, such as an oil pipeline that's being built. It was the Georgians who entered South Ossetia first. Russia went in to defend them. And even if the Russia was the one who instigated it, how is it our problem? The Europeans should be more worried about it than us. If they hate our policies so much, they should be the ones to raise the capital for a viable military. The Cold War is over.and yes, another conflict w/ the Russians might be frightening, but remember, we're on their borders. And I'll be pissed off if someone set up any bases on my front yard too. Wouldn't you?<a class="user" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57s9kyCQC-E">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57s9kyCQC-E</a>"Remaining competitive and active in the world community and world trade is what brings wealth and power to a nation."Our nation isn't being very competitive our education ranks the amongst the lowest in the developed world. Why not spend all this military spending domestically and protect our borders domestically?Pulling our troops out of other countries, and balancing the budget IS the long term solution for the US economy to grow again. Every dollar we spent abroad is a dollar we spend less in America. Our country has too many problems to worry about other nations. We have barely any competitive advantage compared to other nations, except for military superiority. The baton of maintaining peace needs to be carried by all developed nations, and not just the United States. But like I said in my previous post, the public good of peace in the world is paid by all nations indirectly as the United States debases its currency.

I live in driving distance of Dallas. The problem is the job market is saturated with more experienced people due to the number of businesses going under or cutting back workforce. At least where I am, I can move up soon.Moving isn't an option right now without a set job with a reloc package.
