examiner.com — Gun grabbers claim their fictitious definition of an "assault weapon" only bans guns with no "sporting purpose." Tell that to hunters and competitive shooters who would lose their firearms and their sport under an expanded "assault weapons ban."

Sad invalid conclusion drawn from evidence not presented in the article , the reality it appears trying to confuse people with the ban on military style assault rifles easily converted to full auto fire by anyone with access to a simple machine workshop with a maximum useable range on windless days of 400 yards(barrels under the common 15" are really crap for accurate shooting past 400 yards at a 6" red bull ) . The CEP of standard military machine loaded cartridges is a mere 4.5" at 100 yards , by the way .Your average standard competition match rifle shooter uses the good old fashioned single shot bolt action rifle with barrel length > 26" and special hand loaded rounds with sophisticated designed projectiles and these shooters start at 600 yards and move onto 800 and 1200 yard shooting ranges .The posee picture appears to be a possible IAI AR15 clone with a much shorter standard 15" barrel length . The polite expression is that ain't no competition match shooting rifle as your standard winchester match .22 model 52 rifle will out shoot it on the traget range three hundred yards or better even with iron sights .eg <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_52Buried as fiction or fear mongering or improper description or tool holding the wrong weapon , take your pick .

"Sad invalid conclusion drawn from evidence not presented in the article , the reality it appears trying to confuse people with the ban on military style assault rifles easily converted to full auto fire"Any firearm that can be "easily converted to full auto" configuration is already regulated as a "machine gun" by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Legally available semi-automatic carbines cannot be readily converted into a fully automatic configuration, and there exists no rational justification for a ban on such popular sporting rifles."Your average standard competition match rifle shooter uses the good old fashioned single shot bolt action rifle with barrel length > 26" and special hand loaded rounds with sophisticated designed projectiles and these shooters start at 600 yards and move onto 800 and 1200 yard shooting ranges ."There exist numerous competitive organizations of AR-15 target shooters. Your assertion is based upon ignorance, not upon fact.

I don't see how having a machine gun is illegal. It's clear that the purpose of the right to bear arms is to resist unjust government.

AR15s are generally extremely accurate rifles, many well built ones are as accurate as off the shelf bolt action hunting rifles. AR10s are precision target rifles that rival bolt action target rifles.

Apaches, F15s, and main battle tanks did little against rock throwing Iraqi insurgents.

The "assault rifle" ban was one of the stupidest implementations ever. Obama is making a huge mistake, and showing his lack of knowledge on the subject, if he wants to re institute such a crappy law.

ApokalypseNow -- I think you are being naive... I truly believe that when taken as a whole position, liberals in power, e.g., Dianne Feinstein, want total disarmament. No amount of explanation or reason will change their minds. I remember seeing Feinstein get up and leave a hearing in disgust when NRA representatives were testifying in opposition to the 1994 gun ban. They were trying to communicate how "silly and arbitrary" the law was going to be...but she, and others, just didn't want to hear any of it.In the end, after that law sunsetted in 2004, there were many studies conducted that proved the ban did not reduce crime as it was touted.
