torrentfreak.com — Just recently the police in Hungary conducted raids on various torrent and warez sites, but few will have sympathy for those arrested. The site operators charged users for access via premium SMS, many of them unsuspecting kids. The police seized an impressive amount of equipment and also took some impressive photographs.

What I mean't by i am all for torrent is that for example i torrent tv shows because i dont have time to watch them on tv or if i wanna try out a game before i actually buy it (demos don't do s**t). But f**k, if people are willing to pay warez site for the product why not just get it legit?

@comfort1872: I know the guys that run TPB are now worth millions, but I've never had to pay to access any content on their site. Advertising is an opt in/out revenue stream, it's annoying but it doesn't force me to pay so I regard it as a necessary evil.A site with membership fees isn't something I would use but at least the site is being upfront about it. But these guys weren't just charging for access to material readily available for free elsewhere, they were being sneaky about it. Send a text to us and we send you an access code. Most folks will think a text is just a few pence so what the heck, little knowing that the SMS is gonna cost *bucks* coz it's going to a premium rate number, and that by sending it you're also opening yourself up a (pardon the pun) torrent of spam messages that you also get charged a shedload for and it's nigh on impossible to opt out of their "service" once you've sent that first message. It's the very worst kind of underhanded scamming.

Charging people for access to other people's pirated material is ridiculous. Bittorrent was not meant to be abused like this, and I for one am happy with what happened to these guys.
