I think it's misguided to assume that education campaigns are trying to stop people from deciding for themselves since your average consumer doesn't even know what DRM is... so how can they make an informed choice? defectivebydesign.org is trying to educate people about DRM in general.Also, Defective by Design and the open-source movement are not related to each other: one seeks to inform people about DRM and the other empowers users with great, free software.

Microsoft Is not a choice, that's the problem.Try buying a laptop without Windows. You have about 1% of the market to choose from.It's not about XP/Vista being good/bad or otherwise, its about MS shoving this stuff down peoples throats. Bullying OEMs into shipping it on everything they sell. Want to buy a Dell without Windows - servers and some workstations only. Desktops and Laptops all have Windows. Same for all the other big names.That is not choice
