cbs4denver.com — A babysitter's parrot is being credited with helping save the life of a 2-year-old girl who was choking Friday at a Denver area home. While the sitter was in the bathroom, Willie (the parrot) started screaming and flapping his wings. Then he started saying "mama baby" over and over until the sitter came out and found the baby choking.

Parrots are pretty smart. They can pick up words without being explicitly taught them. Additionally, parrots knowing that the humans around them are in trouble and reacting accordingly is not unheard of.
