inhabitat.com — Air travel can be the bane of any well-meaning environmentalist. One flight can spew tons of carbon and other pollution into the air, but let’s face it, there are few reasonable alternatives for jetsetters. So it’s great to hear that when Boeing set out to design their new airplane, the 787 Dreamliner they had a more sustainable focus in mind.

I don't mean to be a jerk, and I'm a HUGE 787 fan...But the 787 was designed to save the airlines money (fuel money mostly, maintenance 2nd). The fact that this turns out to be environmentally better is just a happy coincidence.

You suck. Lines rule! Planes are just lines with an extra added-on dimension.

The rollout of the 787 is today (7/8/07) at the Everett, WA factory. The aircraft won't be flyable (and in fact will have 1,000 temporary fasteners), but the airframe and engines will be intact and assembled. There should be pictures of the event later today on http://aeronode.com.

Congratulations, in two sentences you've summarized why in the long term, free-market innovation generally produces better results than overzealous regulation imposed by nanny-state bureaucrats. Keep it quiet, though--the euros may start catching up with the U.S. if they ever figure this out!
