It's because the major car companies can't afford to experiment with innovation - they are too greedy to break ground. That's the problem with the auto industry. Absolutely no room for small businesses.

TechknowPagan... I ask myself the same question... well, sometimes. It's a market thing... demand, offer, price, blah, blah.. IT HAS BEEN FOR A "WHILE". Check THIS picture from 1945: http://www.maxmatic.com/Graphics/neumann.jpg1945!!!

also - if you're thinking "people will NEVER go for this thing"... If someone would have come up to my dad in 1965 and told him "Mr. Smith, in thirty years STATION WAGONS will be passé. Everybody will be driving around in LUXURY PICKUP TRUCKS with cabs attached onto the back end. They will be called SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLES!", he would have roared with laughter.

Three wheeled motorcycle with a lightweight enclosure! Absolutely no news there, other than it's BMW this time, and not the bike shop down the street. Same old rub applies though: It's hard to see, and it can't take a hit. Badda-Bing, Badda-Boom: It's no good on a mass scale until gas gets expensive enough for people to risk their lives for.Bikers will go for them though, and they are likely the niche market BMW is thinking of. If all it ever did was keep bikers out of their cars in inclement weather, it would still save a lot of fuel. So huzzah! Maybe trike time is finally at hand.

I think that the 50MPH limit will hurt this if it were ever to be made. 65 should be the imposed limit since that is well above most speed limits for most states (some have 70/75 on some highways). I'm sure that someone would be able to mod the speed limiter out either way.I would get one... maybe.. well can't really use it during the winter so I guess it wouldn't be very useful as a single car.

yes it's unfortunate, i would like to see a world without huge trucks and vans with occupancy of one on average...
