msnbc.msn.com — And "the car ran off the 85-foot-high embankment at the end of the runway", "was airborne for 200 feet", and when it smashed into "the large tree, the car split in half, scattering wreckage over an area of 200 square feet." All five young men inside the BMW were killed.

$15 to head down to the local drag strip for an evening of racing. If anything, there's not enough tracks out there, but the cost of visiting one is not a valid excuse for street racing (which is mostly drag racing anyway).Aside from that, you clearly haven't heard of a "track day."

Yes it is a oversimplification. So what, it is a good rule of thumb. And guys normally ^ means something raised to some power. I was too lazy to look up the alt key for a superscript 2. V² / 20 + V. My main point is speed to breaking distance is not a one to one relationship. The V^2 really blows up when you go fast.

What part of this story doesn't make you think the car was stolen?

You're throwing around a lot of assumptions (I admit I was a bit vague). I never said what they did wasn't stupid, because it was. It was damn stupid, and they TRAGICALLY lost their lives because of it. It still would have been stupid if they lived. What they did isn't the focus of my comment--the fact that 5 kids are dead is, and there are a few select posts that shocked me.I'm sure you've read some of the posts in this thread; here are two examples that triggered my comment: "I'd say it is a victory for the human gene pool", "good thing they're dead, 5 less scummbags" [sic]. That's why I replied to *A* comment, and not the entire thread. I do think many of the comments here are valid and I agree with most, namely it being a stupid move, or possibly even the Darwin award mentions because I'm sure we all agree: "What were they thinking??"What they did is possibly one of the stupidest things I've ever read about a person doing, but does that justify me saying that they're obviously scumbags and it's good that they're dead? Nobody knows these kids. Maybe they just f**ked up while showing off. Kids do that and I'll bet my left arm anyone that's ever been 18 years old has taken some stupid risk just to look cool in front of his buddies. I know I have and I'm pretty sure you probably have too.My point being yes, it was a dumbass thing to do, and I agree with you on that. But, at the end of the day there are a lot of unanswered questions and sleepless nights ahead for mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends. That's tragic, no matter how you spin it.

You know what's coming.....their parents are going to sue the community on the grounds that access to the runway caused their kid's death.

It's funny watching people like rarson try to justify speeding... If you told a police officer who pulled you over for speeding over here that you were driving safety because you have thicker tires that give you better traction, and how much of a better driver than everyone else you are, they wouldn't give a damn, and just slap you with a fine...Don't the police actually uphold the law where you live?

The car in question wasn't an M5, it was a 335i.
