ebaumsworld.com — You have got to have a listen to this. A real tech support call sent in by a Dell employee. This guy may be an idiot but I think he speaks for anyone who has called support and wanted to talk to a real person.

Wow....that guy(the caller) is a complete idiot. If he just gave the guy the info he asked for instead of yelling, the problem would have been solved in no time.

You know, when this ended without a punchline I realized I missed the funny part entirely.I thought "what we all have been thinking" was how senseless, angry, and downright stupid some people are, and I was expecting the redneck to get owned verbally by the tech...Also, buried as lame because of ebaumsworld.

He'd already given his details at least once. I don't get angry easily, but I can tell you from experience that giving the same details over and over is demeaning and annoying.I can also tell you from experience, on a helpdesk, that acting as calm as possible with an angry caller will piss them off even more. I consider it a punishment for shouting down the phone at me :P

I used to work as a tech/salesman for a small computer shop here in the city. I would say a good 95% of our phone time was spent doing support for everything from the latest specials from the big box stores to even the local ISP's. (Power cycle the modem, router, & computer)People figured out that they could calls us, talk to a real person from the start, and usually get their problem solved within a few minutes. If it was a hardware issue, they could bring the system in and deal with the same guy in person as they had on the phone. Unlike the big box stores, we could usually get a system fixed the same day barring major hardware failure. Heh, some people would even forget their factory warranty and buy replacement parts from us in exchange for the convenience of hassle free same day service.

The punchline is in the first line in the first comment on this page.

I don't like dell myself (that's why I have a dell Monitor, Mouse, and keyboard know that I think of it) but I feel bad for those people who have to take those tech support calls.
