@Koskun.It's all held up by air. Your ears do sort of pop when you get in there. I've been in there too many times to count, and it's HUGE. Looks like a small piece, but that's 1 big chunk that blew out.
@sedawk: Nope, the deflation was a controlled deflation. Yes, the hole would have deflated the roof but they wanted to make sure they did it in a controlled way so they deflated it immediately for safety. I'm am very tired of people saying: "OMG, it deflated so fast", or "what poor engineering". It's a sign of the good engineering that this is the first time since 1983 that anything like this has happened and that when it did happen, it was dealt with quickly and efficently...
The funny part was watching the evening news trying to spin it into a disaster story. It's newsworthy because normally (rain notwithstanding) you can see the marshmallow from anywhere in the city. The facts:The roof is 20 years old and due for replacement at a cost of about 25M.The deflation was controlled (Following the initial rip, you can see that a single rectangular panel blows out).Nobody was injured or killed. The replacement panel is currently in transit from Mexico. It is expected to arrive Monday. The roof is expected to be back up by Friday. The place should be dried out before the next trade show late January. The "News":It is unknown how many were injured or killed (CTV)Trade shows will have to be cancelled producing massive lost revenues. (CBC)Is the dome safe? (CBC)Is it time to tear down BC Place? (CBC)How will this impact the 2010 Winter Olympics? (CBC)Finally a happy thought: yesterday's weather was 4C, with heavy sleet coming down on a bed of slush:Aren't you glad that you weren't the guy that had to go out under the middle of that inverted roof and punch a drain hole?

It was a CONTROLLED deflation you goober! They knew a hole was in the ceiling, and made the decision to take it down so it could be fixed.
