today.reuters.com — This is good news because perhaps we will get some good non-bias reporting in the US. Jeremy Hillman, the new editor of BBC World said: "We really feel there's actually a huge vacuum for us to fill in terms of global, responsible, impartial reporting,"

Touched a nerve?Word of advice: if you intend to criticize someone you should at least not stoop lower than them because it just destroys your credibility. And creates cyclic arguments.Made me laugh though. One day (please God) there will be common sense and integrity in news reporting in the US. I live in the US and like it here but come ON - anyone that thinks the news reporting here doesn't deserve a kick up the ass is living in cloud cuckoo land.

Why is it absurd? All news was not created equal I am afraid. Bias through language can be forgiven as it is impossible to remove in such organisations. Bias through coverage can even be forgiven as it is also impossible to remove in such organisations. Bias through factual error and misrepresentation however can be quite easily measured and I'm sorry, but the most popular news network in the US, FOX, loses out on this one.

>> Lack of logic and facts????? I responding to each of his/hers points with facts directly from the BBC.Well, you responded to one point with facts directly from the BBC - a summary of the governance of the BBC. But wait, did you actually say anything? You pointed out that you didn't know the difference between taxes and how the BBC is funded. Well done.>> This notion that the BBC is "unbiased" is so ridiculous it's not even worth debating. Whether it's the government, the Queen or anyone else, PEOPLE run the BBC correct? PEOPLE have biases. I couldn't give two s**ts what they "strive" for. They can "strive" all day long, at the end of the day the BBC's reporting tilts extremely left.I don't think anybody is saying that the BBC is unbiased. The point is that they aim to be unbiased and they are less biased than many equivalent news networks in the US>> Of course "left" ad "right" are all relative. To Europeans the BBC may appear "center". That only shows how socialistic Europe is. Most Americans despise socialism. This, of course, has nothing to do with the point at hand. You just wanted to throw in a dig at socialism somewhere, again pointing out your ignorance of European politics.>> The BBC in America won't change anything as far opinions are concerned. They'll just siphon off some left-wingers from the current crop of left-wing outlets. Looks like Katie Couric has some real competition now.Possibly, although people from across the political spectrum might find a television news source without a political or economic axe to grind rather refreshing.

Bias is a NOUN.If you want to describe something as having bias, you call it "biased".You've been able to watch BBC news on BBC America for some time now.

>> "and not even a slapped wrist for outright deceit and propagandizing.">> That's that pesky little First Amendment at work again.Unfortunately, without a media the people can trust, that pesky First Amendment isn't worth the paper it's written upon.>> There are laws that allow for recourse if there is deliberately false information reported. And who is going to prosecute these laws?>> Ironic that you mention propaganda. I don't think there is a greater perpetrator of political propaganda than the>> BBC.That you actually believe that is sad.>> As was mentioned earlier, the BBC really isn't accountable to anyone. They do as they see fit. They're always >> going to get their money and they're always going to have a job.Why don't you follow through with this logic and then contrast the result with commercial news networks?>> American broadcasters know that if they push an agenda, especially at the expense of the truth their viewers will >> get their news elsewhere and they will be out of a job. They can't afford to push an agenda, at least not as much >> as the BBC can.Ok, there are probably two reasons that you can believe this:1. You are under the impression that the BBC is some kind of socialist entity dishing out exclusive media to the UK and that people living there don't have access to the wealth of news sources and informations that you lucky lucky Americans have. Of course, you would be wrong on all counts and I detect a hint of a sense of national superiority in your thinking and a wide streak of ignorance in your learning.2. You think that all Americans must be smart enough to know when what the news it telling them is false. Now, I'm not implying that Americans are dumb, I imagine the same effect could be observed anywhere in a similar situation. The fact is that many people do receive their news from a small number of news sources and often tailor their news intake to the sources that reflect their own personal views most accurately. How then, do people ever find out that their news sources are feeding them bogus information?Try explaining to me the results of this report. A large number of Americans still believe patently false information. Where do you think they get it from?<a class="user" href="http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/186.php">http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/186.php</a>

On Sunday 4th June BBC Panorama aired a another well made and critical news program which would never be shown on any commercial US television network: "Americans like to think they enjoy more freedom than most other countries. However freedom should also mean open and honest government and that all citizens have access to the truth through free and unbiased media. This is sorely lacking in today's America - to an extent that Americans themselves are mostly unaware and yet the rest of the world is in little doubt that Americans are being repeatedly lied to by their government."American scientists accuse the Bush administration of a systematic six-year-long campaign to conceal the threat of global warming. Panorama investigates allegations that scientists were gagged and that reports on climate change were altered and suppressed, in order to play down the scale of the problem."<a class="user" href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/programmes/panorama/default.stm">http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/programmes/panorama/default.stm</a> (stream)<a class="user" href="http://www.mininova.org/tor/331086">http://www.mininova.org/tor/331086</a> (download)
