news.bbc.co.uk— Hype about Web 2.0 is making web firms neglect the basics of good design, web usability guru Jakob Nielsen has said.

We still need Nielsen, however. It's obvious that people are going to ignore his recommendations, but it's still good to have a hardliner around to act as an anchor.
I totally agree with, and many of you do too (even though you're calling him names). He didn't say Web 2.0 was bad, just that in excess it is bad. "The idea of community, user generated content and more dynamic web pages are not inherently bad in the same way, they should be secondary to the primary things sites should get right." Many of you are saying the exact same thing. If you'd get over your anger, and thought about it a second. In addition to what Nielsen said I'd like to point out that all this Web 2.0 "design" stuff isn't design. Where's the creativity in creating a "cookie cutter" web design by plopping up a glossy banner, grads in every pixel of usable space and text so big only 3 words are on the page. DESIGN FIRST!!!!!!!

As Jeremy Keith says on the .net Magazine podcast (Practical Webdesign to Americans) - "Jakob Nielsens a dick".

What a complete MORON. He maintains his so called "guru" status by continuing to be a complete moron? Why does anyone listen to this man.
