An entire industry just switched to programming in .Net. Microsoft caters to developers like no other company. Microsoft's IIS and SQL Server products are used internally by *a lot* of businesses worldwide. You're right, Windows and Office are becoming slightly less important in terms of income for Microsoft. Which is why they have been switching the focus to the server side since the late nineties.Don't make the mistake of underestimating Microsoft just because you may not like them so much.
@GawtMilk Well, seeing as more and more people are being raised with computers, and then finding jobs and being pushed out of the house... more people are looking for computers, and those people aren't really the ones to pick and choose. They want something to get on the internet, play games and other multimedia. Who makes a cheap computer? Well it's not Apple. Most people don't have Apple's either, so the potential buyer won't be looking for one. They will pick something like Dell, and what comes on a Dell? Well, it's not OS X. It's Windows. IMHO Linux is picking up speed as a reliable, easy to use multimedia OS and I wouldn't be surprised to see more and more hardware companies shipping their own versions of it, but until then your only choice is WINDOWS. Side note: The sales of Windows XP past the Vista release shouldn't be seen as a good thing. Microsoft, being a software company, should have been able to release an OS that would make people using XP feel like they're using Win95.
Duh . . this should be obvious . . Bill Gates is one of the most power computer geeks in the world . . Steve Jobs though is quite the lil giant himself . . Do yourself a favor and watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley" . . you'll have a better understanding of the both of them . .

This is a test of the PC Flame Rage System. Results will be tallied, shredded and flushed down the nearest sewage facility!

Considering that Bill Gates effects almost everyone that Steve Jobs effects plus almost everyone else, this question isn't worth asking.
