money.cnn.tv — #5: Don't: Take a 'great deal' on the outgoing model year: You may be tempted by a steep discount on an outgoing 2007 model year car, but be careful. Remember that the car will ultimately be worth less at trade in time than a 2008 model year car.

Rule #0: Never buy a new car

I got 1.9% on my Subaru. No credit union or bank will give me that.

Its not just high-end cars. I got a Subaru at $5,000 below invoice because it was last year's model ($10K below retail - a 40% drop). Now the Kelly Blue Book difference in year models' price is $2,000. You can get some serious deals if you go in very early and get the loss leaders in the newspaper.

Probably the most common dumb car shopping move is to buy a new car when the one you have is working just fine. That 3-year-old car is costing you less and less per year, and replacing it with one that will have significant depreciation the minute you drive it off the lot is just a dumb financial move.

Good. They should be concerned about LION in a crash. That kind of a battery is inherently unstable, and only the complex electronics on them keep them from constantly bursting into flame (most of the time)

I don't know why people are demoting you. This works.Add to your list - get some out-of-town dealers (internet, neighboring towns); and pre-negotiated prices from other organziations (some Ford dealers honored a Price-club pre-negotiated price) to get you quotes too. They're less likely to collude with your local dealers.

Most cars, properly maintained, will last 200,000 to 300,000 or more.Mileage should be a very small consideration on cars these days. I've had 2 cars that I've flipped over the 300,000 mark and they were still excellent vehicles."Check with your own mechanic" should be #1 rule for buying a used vehicle.

I was expecting an article about dumb mistakes people (kids, and hobos) make while actually car shopping - looking in people's windows for money, smokes, and things of value.http://download.free-software.cc
