nytimes.com — In this New York Times report on Keith Olbermann it is noted that a poll done by MSNBC shows that the average age of viewers of O'Reilly's show is 71. Fox and MSNBC concur that the age of the average viewer of said program is over 65 years old.

They're just too damn tired to use the remote, that is, if they haven't lost it somewhere.

@ jutl >> "The median is one measure of averageness [see wikipedia]. The fact that the mean is what is normally referred to in general conversation does not change this. Try a little research before insulting people's education."YES, it does change that::::> Wiki (emph. added): "IN MATHEMATICS, an average or central tendency of a set (list) of data refers to a measure of the "middle" of the data set. There are many different descriptive statistics that can be chosen as a measurement of the central tendency. The MOST COMMON method, and the one GENERALLY REFERRED TO simply as "the average", is the arithmetic mean.SO, I SAY: In mathematics and statistics SPECIFICALLY, "average" can mean a number of things. However, GENERALLY speaking, average equals mean (a statistic absent from the article), and it DOES NOT equal median (the feature statistic for this Digg link). Generally speaking. Are you trying to tell me that this Digg headline is speaking in specific mathematical or statistical jargon? Please. My research (at your request) confirmed my assertions. I will CONTINUE to encourage further education when I see fellow Diggers who don't understand basic concepts in certain non-obscure fields. I refuse to put the burden on Digg readers to have to discern among various academic definitions versus general definitions of words. Digg is much closer to a news aggregator than an academic journal, so, unless otherwise specified, the general definition is rightly assumed. It is the responsibility of the submitter to use the correct language in context. The headline is inaccurate. Stop making lame, stretched excuses for someone else's error.

Reading your comment doesn't instill one with a lot of confidence in your ability to discern what is "well dumb".

The majority of voters are over 65.

@ mikesbakerEXACTLY - the fact than any republican views are slammed down the tubes at DIGG means basically nothing other than it's over populated by those who probably only vote every 4 years if that.

I don't believe it. The cause of so much anger, gnashing of teeth, and murder fantasies...brought on by some old codgers too senile to change the channel.I want Fox News to have a warning that O'Reilly isn't meant for people under 60, and that we should be on the Internet instead. It would be a tacit acknowledgment that he's not meant to be taken seriously, and would save so many of us a lot of grief.
