securitypronews.com — Some Australians who haven't secured their wireless networks may soon be getting a (relatively friendly) visit from the police. It seems that a few officers intend to do a little wardriving in order to find unsecured networks and warn the owners of possible problems.

The current time to crack WEP is 30 sec to a min, with the proper tools.

So, we can bring the monopoly of cable TV to wifi?

I think that used to be the case. Most non-technical types use Windows which now puts scary messages up when you connect to an unsecure network.

so you changed their router password! ZOMG! l337!way to show them not share with their neighbors!a hard reset of their router and they can secure their wireless from the one actual threat to unsecured networks: ninny jerks who think they're hackers.

someone sets up old people's wireless. those people put passwords on. i think the cops are going to find a lot of generous people who've made conscious decisions to share, not dumb people who managed to get everything plugged in right on their own but couldn't read the directions for setting up a password.

Bandwidth is not a concern for you? You're lucky! Most Australians have bandwidth caps less than 12gb per month! And while some may share your views a lot of people dont, and a lot of those people wouldnt have secured their wireless. They're not telling you you HAVE to it's just more of a nice suggestion

The worst you will get in Australia for being caught with pot is a $200 fine anyways. It's decriminalised here.
