depends on what group and where... to label them all that way imo is short sighted... their are atheist AA groups... a lot of people confuse turning your will over to a 'higher power' as religious, imo it's actually just a metaphor to get over yourself and quit being such a control freak or you'll never be able to gain control... like a hard style in kung fu verses soft... force verses flow
AA may have cultish ideals but who gives a s**t, the program works. One of the hardest things about quitting a drug, or behavior is having a positive support system, this is what AA, NA, CA, etc is.
