redherring.com — For years and years Sony has been a very difficult company to deal with from a developer standpoint. They could get away with their arrogance and capriciousness because they had an installed base. They have also historically had horrible software tools. I think Sony shot themselves in the foot.

"I love my Saturn, and still play it regularly, but you're pretty much wrong here. "Well, it's a debateable issue. It's generally considered to be true that the Saturn had more "potential" than the PS1, but I'm not going to swear by that -- I've never personally developed on either a Saturn or a PS1 so I have to work off what I learned back in the day -- which is quite likely wrong seeing how accurate the current PS3 vs. X360 vs. Wii journalism is. Nights was an amazing looking Saturn game, for example, but it wasn't easy to get things to look that good.On a side note, Three Dirty Dwarves was one hell of an awesome Saturn game too :)

@dangermouseThe 360 console and HD player are indeed $600 and obviously you miss the point. With the 360 I'm not FORCED to buy a movie player i don't want. I have the option to buy it, which is nice. However, if I just want to play games I can buy a $400 system.SOny doesn't give you that option because they are shoving this Blue Ray format down gamers throats.

You guys are all fools, PCs are the way of the future.I personally like playstations, I've got a PS1 and PS2 but im not going to buy a PS3.Not because i dont think they will be any good, im sure the PS3 and Wii will be great along with xBox 360. The only reason im not going to buy any of them is because computers are soooo much better. Better adaptabillity, better support for different genres of game (u can buy a game pad or use keyboard or joystick etc) and they will be easy to expand on in the future. Also it means i can surf the web easily, do work on them, play games, chat with friends, print work off, have a network of them over a LAN and my machine witch ca`n run games such as oblivion and farcry on full settings cost about the same as the consoles.also i love my 19" TFT :-D

I agree with most of it, but reasons both you and I have (surfing, working, extensibility...) aren't reasons that everyone has to have. It already has been quotes quite a few times - people don't buy hardware, people buy software. I didn't buy PC to look at it, but to work and play etc. If I could buy console that would allow me to work, browse, communicate, extend hardware... in a meaningful way, I'd consider it. But it doesn't and it won't. But that doesn't mean consoles don't have future.
