space.com— Walter M. Schirra Jr., one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts and the only man to fly on NASA's Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs, has died. He was 84.

I'm glad they phrased it correctly here. He was the only one to "fly" in all three programs. Some news people I have heard say he was the only one to be in each program, but Gus Grissom was, but he died in the Apollo 1 fire, so he didn't actually make it to space in them all.
Wally's the type of guy who reminds me that behind the malfunctioning shuttles, the overdue ISS, an overbudget NASA, and the diaper-wearing murderous astronaut, there's still reasons for people to explore space, and there's still guys who do it in spite of all the obstacles.
