The laser plane is more exciting...Nothing can scare the s**t out of terrorists than their friend beside them all of a sudden having his clothes catch on fire while he is split literally in two by a laser beam. Please note that if they do leave the head intact, then the half with the head will still have a few seconds if not minutes of painful life left in it as it squirms on the floor, cut in half...cauterized.If that doesnt scare you out of being a terrorist and put the fear of God in to you, I don't know what will.
Yeah, it could...unfortunately the USA doesnt sell state of the art weaponry until they have effective countermeasures to said hardware. They aren't stupid.
Total internal reflection (the point where you pass the critical angle and get 100% reflection) can ONLY occur inside a medium, such as a lens or prism. Since no glass (or atmosphere for that matter) is perfectly clear/pure, the laser will still be partly absorbed by these imperfections. A bight enough laser will cause these imperfections to absorb enough energy to melt the glass, which will destroy the total internal reflection and melt everything in the vicinity. That said there are ways to protect your missiles from lasers. Coating them in a particular "paint" can render them almost immune to lasers. The laser hits the surface of the missile, and this "paint" is heated so rapidly it melts, evaporates, and then becomes an opaque plasma so fast that the missile is mostly undamaged. Of course a second laser hit to the same spot will destroy the missile.

ya know, the "enemy" (who ever that is) can easily, and cheaply, build a giant mirror to reflect the laser.....
