truthout.org — The Department of Defense statistics are alarming - one in three women who join the US military will be sexually assaulted or raped by men in the military. The warnings to women should begin above the doors of the military recruiting stations, as that is where assaults on women in the military begin - before they are even recruited.

In 2006 I was watching a Congressional committee hearing on CSPAN where a victim and a victims advocate testified about how women in officer academies were being raped and coerced to submit to sex. Often the perpetrators have higher ranks than their victims. Also divulged by the victim, victims advocate, and others, was how victims that reported the attacks and also cases of sexual harassment were punished by authority figures that they trusted to intervene. The victim I listened to explained how other women at the academy she attended adopted a callous attitude about it, one where they insisted that the victims should go ahead and take the abuse and put it behind them. Most cases don't get reported for fear of official and other retaliations.

Right in line with Treatment of Vets. Cheneys KBR belongs to Haliburton who are accused of drugging, raping, holding female contractors prisoner in trailers in IRAQ, and it's okay too.
