Speaking as someone whose family came here in 1630 from Spain and who also has Navajo blood, I can say that after 40+ years of living in America I decided to discover my own heritage because I was sick of this society making me feel ashamed of it. My family was here before America was America, yet I often feel like I am unwelcome in this country. I discovered that I have a very interesting and beautiful heritage. The racists here who would try to make me ashamed of it are ignoramuses who dont know the first thing about it.I've always lived in California, only spoken English, and grew up, went to school, and lived around white people. Yet I realized later in life that they always saw me as "different" and treated me as such. So all your talk about assimilation is bulls**t, as if all someone has to do is talk like everyone else and act like everyone else and then you'll be okay with them. This is just another way incompetent white males try to dominate people, by telling them that YOU are making the rules and if they dont go by those rules then we wont be successful. Bulls**t. WE have the political power to tell you to shut the f**k up. So shut the f**k up. We'll practice our culture the way we see fit, speak the language we wish to speak, and there aint a goddamn thing you can do about it.We know that all this stuff going on in AZ is just the last gasp of the racist white male in America. Hispanics are poised to be in control of the political apparatus and you are watching your minority status coming over the horizon with much fear. It must feel awful to know that you're not going to be able to skate by in life by receiving favors from your good-ole boy network anymore, and that you might actually have to EARN your way through life. Oh the horror you must feel when you wake up thinking about that fact. It's time to put incompetent whiny racist white males on the endangered species list.
Two great men with two very different methods. I can see the relation between the two of them. You are the one that's blinded by racism and can't see what sacrifices that both of these men made for their people. You're pathetic and small in my glory.
Bitter much? "...this society making me feel ashamed of it..." You're referring to your Native American side? You're saying America made you feel ashamed of that? Huh? Maybe if you grew up in the 30s. And from the 60s on Native Americans were looked upon almost with reverence.
