jalopnik.com — Here is the first proof that Ferrari is working on a new Dino. These exclusive pictures are showing a mule of the new car. Based on a 599 body, it doesn't yet give away so much - but at least a little of what will become the new Dino. What identifies the test car as a mule for the Dino is the engine sound, or should we say the lack of it.

Typical of car "spy" photos.

If they're going for the "cheap" market then they are probably after doctors, lawyers, etc. who make in the $200-300K range. Quite a lot of money, but not enough to be spending over quarter of a million on a car. If you've been to any Ferrari dealership lately, you'd know they charge at least $80K over MSRP. Meaning a $250K F430 (the cheapest Ferrari as of now) will likely cost you over $300K.In which case someone willing to spend up to $200K, who isn't worried much about gas prices and wants the name would go for this "cheap" Ferrari.

Well, if I were in the market to drop that much on a car, the fact that the Tesla can only go about 200 miles on a charge before you have to stop for 3.5 hours to charge it is a serious knock against it. It's an interesting proof of concept, but until the charge time drops down below 10-15 minutes it's pretty impractical for anything other than commuting.

A cheap Ferrari is still better than anything else.

Becasue the Tesla Roadster is not a Ferrari, and that is enough for most people, me included. It's not just the price that matters here, it's the image.
