And that is exactly why I started my comment with "I can't say that "no child" needs these drugs". I just feel that diet needs to be explored as a possibility before "blindly" medicating your child. It seems that most recently it is far quicker and easier for doctors to just hand over meds instead of actually trying to find the root cause of a particular issue.

i dont know anything about it butcouldnt someone with ADHD just study the subjects they really enjoy - then it wouldnt be challenging so theyd have real achievements ..or am i just hopelessly uninformed

Of course we are. Attention Deficit Disorder is the most over diagnosed thing in America. I could probably walk into a shrink today and get a prescription by the afternoon

I'd say most children are over-medicated on Television before ADHD drugs, but they're both ugly addictions.

I have a 2 year old, and I'm doing my part to keep her off of any drug that will change her personality. She has trunks full of toys, but we only let her play with 10 at a time. Every Sunday she gets to pick out 10 new toys to play with for the week. When we had a living room full of toys I noticed her going from toy to toy every 15 seconds and thought of this plan. Now she plays with her toys for 10-15 minutes before getting bored. I think we didn't have as many problems with ADD before because kids had a rattle and a doll to play with.

I am a single mother of a 7 year old only child he was diagonsed with ADHD 2 years ago in kindergarden and it has been a sad, sad, journey. First of all I felt alot of pressure from the school itself to get my son on medication, and nothing has really worked it just has made him depressed he's been on ritlan, concerta, stratara, and adreall. He used to be hyper and chatty, but he was happy. I want my happy kid back so I am personally thinking about talking to his doctor about easing him off his meds( addrall and risperdal at the moment) I should mention that we recently ran into other problems that i think is a result of the meds my sons teeth are starting to decay, (my son brushes his teeth like 3 times a day and doesnt eat alot of candy or sugar) so my depressed 7 year old son is due for a root canal next week. Now I cant say for sure that the tooth decay is the a result of the meds, but being that i've been giving my kid "legal" speed doesnt it make sense? I wish there was a way the teachers could be more compassionate and stop pressuring parents to drug their kids up. I know it might be easier for them to teach when they have a room full of zombies. But I think it is hurting our kids. I think the schools funding or not should find a resource for these poor kids. on that note I am getting my kid off these drugs.
