nytimes.com — There is an East-West divide over stem-cell research and genetic engineering. American and European researchers have made most of the progress so far in biotechnology. Yet they still face one very large obstacle ? God, as defined by some Western religions.

Actually, science is the root word of scientific. Furthermore, observation and experiment are PART of the scientific method. Not something applied to the scientific method.Douchebaggery, however, appears to be your area of expertise.

@JamesSpazaWrong. Anyone who has ever taken a philosophy of science course knows that eliminating all but one of the hypothesis DOES NOT make the remaining one correct. Ignoring this rule is how the world got flat and science was called magic.

"Thus, you would need for a moral code to be announced to all of humanity from an objective source (God) for there to be a moral code that is the same for everyone."This is patently incorrect. What you need are evolved behavioural traits which improve the survival chances of a species ergo, all members of a species share these traits.Claiming that we should all have different moral behaviours is like claiming that we should all see, hear and digest food differently. We're inherently the same kind of animal. The same species. Why should it surprise you that we all behave in similar ways?

Your statement "There are no absolutes" IS an absolute. Without realizing it, you've just contradicted yourself. Absolutes do exist.

Science unfettered is about as intelligent as religion unfettered, both are capable of great evil and destruction. It doesn't take much imagination to see how trans-genetics could obliterate humanity and worse the biosphere.

Spaza, you really are hopelessly clutching at straws. The most you get out of correcting this statement paradox is that there are some absolutes. It's like the statement "This is a lie." Incredible how your so desperate to cling to anything in order to maintain your ridiculous belief system.

You see, right there, is why this world is so screwed. You think that bronze age cultural values, such as slavery, are somehow relevant in this day and age because an old myth book says so. So much for your morals.Who are you with your fantasy book to tell everyone else what is moral and immoral? You go on and on about man-made morality without tragically realizing that your book is a man-made invention.
