macworld.com — If you ask me, the war on buttons has gone too far. The new iPod shuffle takes a step back in both the usability and compatibility departments. Don?t get me wrong, the new VoiceOver feature is a very clever idea, especially on a device with no screen. But the rest of the changes make me wonder if Apple has placed too high a premium on the product's

Maybe it's just me, but we have 3 second-gen Shuffles in our house. I think they are great for what they do: play a small group of music with very little user interaction. The only thing I ever used the buttons for was changing the volume, anyway! We use ours almost 100% for the gym, they clip nicely to your shirt collar or sleeve cuff and are lightweight and stay out of the way.If I want to watch video I'll put it on one of our two iPhones, I keep a 80GB iPod in my car for music and my wife has an nano in her car for music. They each have their place. People that get so upset over this seem to look at it as a primary iPod, which I don't think the shuffle line was ever meant to be. It's something to drop a few playlists on and listen to while you are jogging or out at the gym.

Screw you, Apple. You're pressing our buttons! People like having control over their device. Good luck selling these because they "look cool". I prefer buttons.

I too don't care for it, but if I remember right, when it was introduced, Jobs commented that he didn't think it was a good balance of features, but that the market research folks claimed there was a segment of the population that really wanted this type of device, and so there it was as an option. The fact that it sells big and they are updating it seems to confirm that it fills a niche for some people.

I bought a 2nd generation iPod shuffle a couple weeks after they came out, I had it for over a year before I lost it.I took the opportunity to upgrade and to an iPod Classic, and after 6 months it got stolen out of my gym locker. So what did I replace it with? Another iPod shuffle (refurbished for $29). Do I miss my Classic? Nope.Maybe you should try one before you start dissing it.

What if you want to go back three songs? Four songs? Absolutely ridiculous. Just get a Sansa Clip. 4GB for $50, and it actually has a damned screen. It's the same height as the shuffle but it is wider to make room for the screen. This is just stupid. You can't even use your own pair of headphones! You can't use this on a pair of speakers! This is the most ridiculous f**king device.

No really you aren't the target market, this is why they offer a whole line of ipods not JUST the shuffle.

Right, because the ipod shuffle market is well known for it's upgradability and it's hacker base... idiot.
