engadget.com— Apple just admitted that the first Apple TV didn't quite work out -- so it's back with a new model that can access iTunes directly -- and streams movies in both DVD quality and HD with 5.1 surround.

"...when it [appleTV] plays VLC [application]." Why is that statement so complicated? For now it's just an extension of the Front Row/iTunes thing and it's really restrictive. appleTV would have jumped off the shelves if it simply put the OS X desktop on my LCD and to my stereo in HD. That way I can play all video files, be they mov or avi, and I can even enjoy games on it. I'd love to see Unreal for Mac on my 40" Sony LCD. BTW, my head is fine. How's yours?
When it comes to quality, this is second rate. If you are looking for other sources to watch movies, etc. try reeltime.com. Talk about quality streaming! Pretty good! Right now they have a program they call ReelCash that gives you a fifteen dollars credit before you have to pay for anything. They don't have a lot of stuff, but nothing can compare with their technology.
