appleinsider.com— Apple Computer is once again facing a problem that it has become all too familiar with -- not enough supply of its most popular products to meet growing demand.

There are 48 different configurations of the MacBook white, and 9 of the Black MacBook, not including extra adapters or software included with the machines (which take time to install). While this isn't an earth-shattering number of configurations, Apple typically only manufactures 3 of them, with all of the rest of the configurations being built-to-order and thusly taking extra time to actually put together. My guess is Apple prepares a certain number of each configuration using a statistical analysis of the demand of those units, but if for any reason you oversell any one set configuration, you're out of luck until you can send your order out to Asia, have them build a few thousand more. Hence, delays.Apple isn't Dell, they don't typically build machines to order, even a thousand orders out of prediction can cause a delay.
You do realize that Apple is the fourth largest computer manufacturer right? Apple may have a relatively small market share, but so do most other computer manufacturer's. There isn't ONE company making all Windows based computers.
@slantyyzI usually have no problem doing upgrades on Macs. I've upgraded drives, memory, vid cards etc on a variety of different Macs from Pismo laptops (one of the greatest designs ever) to iMacs (G3s and G5s), Beige G3 desktops, QuickSilvers, and so on. The problem is that the G4 based laptops were not particularly user-friendly for upgrading and if you do it yourself and screw it up, your AppleCare warranty goes right out the window. I've made do for storage by using USB and FireWire based drives, but that solution sucks for when I'm actually not plugged into power directly. the interior shots I've seen of MacBooks and MacBook Pros show a clearly superior design for upgrades as compared to their predecessors.

They are coming from California so if you live out west it is not too bad. Here in Colorado it takes about 3 days.

Perhaps the battery recall will slow down demand.

Because the recall is on ibooks and powerbooks, not intel macbooks. Get a clue.

Spring 2007 looks like a little more than three months to me.
